Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is a unique, rapid, and evidence-based approach to psychotherapy. Within ART, the client is guided by the trained therapist to replace the negative images related to painful life experiences, with positive images of the client’s choosing. Evidence has shown that once the negative images have been replaced by positive ones, the triggers that contribute to symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder will be gone. For example, nightmares, intrusive thoughts and/or panic related to trauma will stop.
The speed at which processing can be achieved is a huge benefit to this type of therapy. Participants of ART, have been able to see results in an average of one to two sessions!
The use of eye movements is important in ART, as it allows voluntary changes in the client’s mind. Within the ART protocol, the eye movements, along with other ART enhancements, make these therapies work much faster and more effectively. The use of eye movements have been shown to elicit a sense of calming, in addition to supporting the rewiring of information in the brain.
One of the most unique aspects of ART is that when clients replace their negative images with positive ones, they don’t need to talk to the therapist about any details of the trauma. This is because ART is procedural, though creative; and the client is the one in control of the process, with the helpful guidance of an ART trained therapist. This makes the therapy easier on the client and easier on the therapist.
