Trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT) is an evidence-based treatment approach shown to help children, adolescents, and their parents/caregivers overcome trauma-related difficulties. TF-CBT helps children address distorted or upsetting beliefs related to the experienced trauma, while also supporting children in learning new skills to help them cope with ordinary life stressors. This modality also helps the supportive, healthy parent/guardian to cope effectively with their own emotional distress and develop skills that support the child. This is a short-term therapeutic approach, usually consisting of anywhere between 12 and 20 sessions. Within these sessions, a client a therapist utilizes an 8-component method, known as the PRACTICE acronym, which consists of psychoeducation, supporting parents, reviewing, trauma narrative and establishing safety.
Everlasting Wellness LLC has several therapists that utilize TF-CBT in their practice. Please see their photos below and click on the image if interested in more information.
